Type: Apartment Building in Nassau County, NY
Problem: Water Intrusion
Future Environment Design's Solution: Surveyed, and recommended resolutions to a water intrusion problem. A roof leak was the cause of the water intrusion. Water intrusion impacted apartment by causing water stains and mold to grow behind the wall of a closet. Roof was repaired and closet was remediated. Project included microbial sampling utilizing surface samples (swabs) and air sampling utilizing air-o-cell cassettes. Microbial air sampling before and after remediation gave results indicating the successful completion of the project.

Type: Residential Apartment Building in Manhattan, NY
Problem: Stachybotrys Chartarum
Future Environment Design's Solution: Co-developed microbiological protocols for the removal of stachybotrys chartarum from several apartments in two Manhattan apartment buildings. Once developed, the protocols were used to monitor the performance of the remediation contractor removing the fungal contaminated materials and cleaning-up the apartments. Project required microbial air sampling with Anderson samplers and the collection of bulk and wipe samples to confirm completion of the remediation. The project required open communications with the community and residents to allow the successful performance of the protocols.

Type: College in Suffolk County, NY
Problem: Water Intrusion
Future Environment Design's Solution: Surveyed, and recommended resolutions to the result of a water intrusion problem that affected a newly installed heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system for a new building. Project required cleaning of the installed ducts before operation, and microbial sampling including surface samples (swabs). We developed protocols (utilizing NADCA procedures), hired the duct cleaning contractor, and ensured the cleaning protocols were followed. Successful cleaning of the ducts was determined by visual inspection and surface sampling.

Type: New Hotel in Suffolk County, NY
Problem: Mold Growth
Future Environment Design's Solution: Surveyed, and recommended resolutions to a water intrusion problem. New construction materials arriving onsite already water damaged and further water intrusion caused mold growth. Materials had to be removed and new materials installed. Project included microbial sampling utilizing bulk and surface samples (swabs).

Type: Office Building in Manhattan, NY
Problem: Air Quality
Future Environment Design's Solution: After the World Trade Center collapse on September 11, 2001, building occupants were concerned about the air quality in their building. We performed air sampling for mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), asbestos, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), lead, nuisance dust, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and carbon monoxide. Results indicated all indoor air quality levels were similar to outdoor levels and were within typical air quality guidelines.
